Mandeville, Louisiana- 4 Reasons You Will Love Living Here
Situated on the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain, is one of the oldest, most charming cities in the state – Mandeville, Louisiana. We love it. We think you’ll love it. Here are four of the many reasons why Mandeville is one of the most desirable places to live in the South.
The Lakefront
If you’re not from here, the best way we could describe the vibe on the Mandeville Lakefront is a private island, with the most beautiful, giant oak trees and lush greenspace. Located along Lakeshore Drive, in a part of town often referred to as “Old Mandeville” (our offices are located here!) The Lakefront is not only a nature lover’s dream, but is close to some of the area’s best shopping and dining experiences. Paved, the path along the lakefront is a popular place for people who want to birdwatch, walk, jog, stroll, bike, rollerblade and take their pets for exercise. All along the path there are swings and benches where you can take in the views, along with many beautiful historic homes that are simply a site to see! It’s not rare to site beautiful sailboats and other water sport lovers, in the lake, which spans across to the city of New Orleans. There is a splash pad and two parks for children to enjoy. In spring and fall, there are free events at the amphitheater, where members of the community gather to enjoy concerts, Mardi Gras parades and socializing.
DEW DROP JAZZ HALL
A few blocks north of the Mandeville Lakefront, on Lamarque St., you’ll find a small, unpainted wooden building, looking just as it did more than 100 years ago, when musicians who played jazz took steamboats across the lake from New Orleans to play at Dew Drop Jazz Hall.
The Dew Drop hosted some famous musicians, like a young Louis Armstrong, Buddy Petit and many others over the years.
Luckily for those of us, who call Mandeville home, the Dew Drop is still hosting musicians. They play regularly for visitors sitting on the wooden benches or even outside on lawn chairs. If you’re looking for a Southern experience, look no further than Dew Drop Hall.
GREAT SCHOOLS

Located within an hour are Southesatern Louisiana University, Tulane University, Xavier University, Dillard University, Louisiana State University, University of New Orleans, Delgado Community College, Delta Community College, many of which also have satellite campuses in St. Tammany Parish, making the area ideal for students of any age.
THE TAMMANY TRACE
Spanning a little over 30 miles and connecting several St. Tammany Parish Communities, including Mandeville, Lacombe, Covington, Abita Springs and Slidell, this asphalt trail is a former segment of the Illinois Central Railroad. With 31 bridges all built on old railroad trestles, this trace draws in both locals and tourists. The Tammany Trace is a nature lover’s dream, providing solace for wildlife as a wildlife conservation area with parks, historic landmarks, wetlands and views of many animals in their natural habitat. With headquarters in Old Mandeville, there are many activities at the trailhead for children. There, you will find restrooms, a splash pad, park, picnic tables and places to park. Nearby, at the Kickstand Cafe, you will find bike rental options. From Mandeville, follow the Trace to Fontainebleau State Park, which is a 2,800 acre park. Fontainebleau is a great asset to St. Tammany Parish, with campsites, hiking trails, cabins, picnic areas, boat launches, fishing, swimming just off a sandy beach, and more! From there, the Trace rolls through scenic Bayou Lacombe, and many other peaceful parks. Whether you decide to bike the trail, walk, run or hike, you’re sure to love the Tammany Trace.
